Iressa is an anilinoquinazoline used in the cancer treatment for patients suffering from locally advanced lung cancer. Iressa consists of Gefitinib 250 mg. The drug is, however used when the platinum based chemotherapy and Doetaxel chemotherapy fail to have the required effect. Though the clinical trial results of the drug show some contradictions regarding the effectiveness of the drug and its ability to increase the survival rate of the patients. The drug is used as an inhibitor to interrupt the growth of the cancer cells. It also finds use in other cancers in case of EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) over expression.
